With your insurance have you tried some of the classic car companies on the net. I've insured my 1985 Silvia for £175 fully comp, free breakdown recovery and £50 excess. You need to provide proof that the car is not a rust bucket by sending them photos of it inside & out but it's well worth considering the price of insurance now-a-days.
By the way I've got 6 points (thanks to pesky safety cameras) and only 3 years NCB.

now thats a good deal,my last quote was £435,5yrs no claims,3 points,third party f&f,£200 excess,that was the" quote me happy" insurers,more like quote me unhappy
