Default Track preparation

Ok S12 jedis i need your help please?

I have just bought a completely stock 1 owner from new clean and tidy S12 with the CA18ET motor.

I am planning on stripping the whole thing down to save every bit of weight so if anyone wants a mint complete interior then let me know.

I need your help with parts and advice though, bearing in mind i am on a very very tight budget, here goes;

Brakes,
These seem to work ok but the first bit of track use will destroy them i think, what pads are available for these cars for track use and for ok money?
Discs all seem ok and the calipers will be ok once cleaned up.

Suspension,
This is the main area of concern for me as it is truly shocking!! I guess most 20 year old machines will get a bit saggy!! What suspension options on a budget are available please?

Engine,
The motor seems to be ok and has all service stamps all the way from 1987 to the present day!!!!!
I am thinking a boost gauge and a bleed valve will be ok but to what boost?
Air filter and exhaust but what cheap exhausts are available or is it all custom work?

Transmission,
How strong are the clutches in these?
Do must people weld the diff's for track and drift use?

This should be most of my concerns so far so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ian.

I'd try and keep the boost round 10-11 psi for track use. You could run 12 but round a track it would be risky. Exhaust are custom only, powerflow should be able to make you one for £350ish for 2.5" system, or if you can weld make your own. If you want a bit more power you could probably get hold of a decent T25 for around £140, and it pretty much bolts straight on, keep an eye out for one on the SXOC.

I'd look for an s13 clutch, slightly harder wearing and they also fit straight on. For the Diff if your on a budget and want a bit of drift action, a mig-spec 3-way welder is the way to go. Or if you wanna get a bit more technical an s13 VLSD can be made to fit, which would probaby be more suitable for grip diving but would be hard work to drift with IMO.

Make sure you get the full kit as it's the clutch cover that appears to make the difference thanks to it's higher spring rate.

Thanks for the great and informative replies.

What car did the T25 come off as standard?

So if i get an uprated S13 clutch it goes straight on without any modifications needed?

T25 are standard on the S13 the T28 from an S14 is even better.

S13 clutch will fit without issue so long as it's the one for the CA18DET engine. Someone will be able to tell exactly what year to go for to make sure you get the right one...... but not me
