Default Cooling problem

Right this one is getting me down, I know what it is but I can't fix the chuffin thing!

Rad was leaking and then started getting air locks, found only by chance doing my daily water top up's, as temp gauge read bang in the middle.

Decided to get a replacement got an alloy S13 rad finally got it mounted, but I still have problems with air locks, and I can't bleed them out!

Symtoms are very hot top hose and top of rad, but bottom hose is stone cold. Temp gauge reads normal running temp.

Thought about taking the thermostat out but I can't think it's at fault as it's allowing hot water to the rad.

Tried bleed it again twice tonight with no joy.

Any ideas welcome!!

yeah, try the stat first, and let it tickover for at least half an hour with the rad cap off, they can be a bugger to bleed.

Annoyingly I don't even have a socket set at home to have the stat out! The shame!

I shall get it out tomorrow, I'll pop into wilkos at get an el cheapo socket set.

Stat is only a few months old, as the stat wasn't working when I got it

Cheers guys it was the stat, it had a new one a month or two ago so I thought it can't be the stat

Sorted now and going well, so well the rear spoiler tried to escape last night

Hopefully I can get some mods done now rather than fixing it all the time.
