Default Anyone ever thrown a rod?

A few years back in the good old days of the internet, probably way before most of you kiddies ever knew what an S12 was there was some pics on Datmans site of some CA18ET's that have thrown rods. It was said at the time this was a major weakness of the engine.

I can't really comment much on standard engines as other than my first S12 which I had for 6 months I've only ever ran DET rods in the ET.

But the thing is, I haven't heard of anyone chucking a rod for many years

I can only think that the engines that threw them were mk1's without the 6.5k limiter, or maybe the lighter Scimitars made it easier to over rev them.

Anyone been unlucky then?

I've thrown a rod twice but never in a et once in an old "Y" reg 1.6 Honda Accord and once on a CA18DE never heard of a ET throwing one.

i dont know of anyone throwing them in the last 6 years either, ive conflicted this rumour before on sxoc quite a few times. Also i spoke to datman about this years ago. He agreed after discussion that it wasnt entirely the engines fault but i wont say much more on it.

kenn finns still on standard rods and so was adz, and adz liked to drive his hard and high in the rpm, he also had the piper cam. There good examples for the engines strengths i recon

They are a bit thinner that the DET rods, I'll show a pic I took, but yeah it seems odd that they don't throw them anymore

It must be down to revs I imagine as the stress will increase exponentially.

The only one I know that has thrown a rod was down to a spun big end and the owner (Neil) didn't give a crap about the car, but this would have thrown any sized rod in the end.
