walkabout
So this summer I know I'm gonna go some place. It just dawned on me why not spend a little on traveling further rather than pay off a credit car now. I mean, the smart way is to pay off the credit card now, but I would only delay it by about 3 or 4 months at the most. I could live with that. Then with holiday pay, I could pull in some extra hours and get it down to 2 or 3 months delay. I digress though.
I am considering going to Aus or UK. Thing is, I want to do both and cant. ------------------------------------ Australia: Pros: US currency is worth more so I dont have to worry so much about costs. Cons:I will be hitting up Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide. A wee bit more travel time I reckon and therefore more costs. Brisbane and Adelaide to meet up with some mates (they've offered to lend a hand in my travels) and Sydney to see the Opera house, the city and maybe enjoy an opera. ---------------------------------------- UK: Pros: I only have a couple places I wish to see honestly. Stonehenge and some nearby mounds from that era, Big Ben, Parliament and Wales. All decently close. Cons:The Pound is worth more so it will be a little harder for me to move about. I dont know you chaps as well as I do in Aus. so I dont know if any of you in the area I will want to visit would be as keen to lend a hand amongst your hectic lives. -------------------------------------------- If any of you have some thoughts or would be willing to help a mate out in furthering his education outside the US (we know how most Yanks are who stay inside), that would be awesome. I will be rereading a bit of my Brit history texts to get a better understanding of what it is I will be seeing and the depth of it. If I did this, it would be in late July/early August. I know it's a bit far out, your words, good or bad are welcomed. Even if it's bad, it will only help me make a far better educated decision of what I want to do this summer. Cheers Colin |

Well yeah Australia of course.
But people coming over here are having it easy due to the recent drop of the GBP strength. Last week I came back from a few places in the US/Canada. I spent a fair bit more than the last time I went to the US because just from currency changes alone I'm paying 45% more for things.

Depending on how long you've got the UK is a better bet as places of interest are closer where's in OZ everything is a big distance. Sydney to Adelaide is a good days drive, Sydney to Brisbane a good two or three days. I think people on here are thinking of where they would like to go and OZ is a much better option for your average Brit than staying at home. In London you have a shed load of museums, castles and stately homes scattered round the country that are all worth a visit and if your interested in British history what more could you ask for?
