Default Tein SPD damper set for S12, show your interest!!!

Hi all,

After receiving an email from Japan just some hours ago, i can tell you some good news.
there definately will be done a SPD for the S12.

Please post your interest in following:

Front S13 Mono Flex damper kit with pillowball upper mounts
Rear custom made SPD Mono Flex spec damper set specially designed for S12
(Mono Flex spec to be confirmed but 99% sure, as super racing will get to expensive)

To get specs on the Mono Flex Setup checkout: http://www.tein.co.jp/e/products/mono_flex.html

Most important features: height adjustable Fr and Rr; 16 step combined damping force regulation; mono tube design, MSV (Micro Speed Valve technology)....

So now someinfo on the project itself

How it began:

After buying myself a S12 (cause i love japanese oldschool coupes), i started to think and look around after available parts for my upcoming project). Well it turned out that (not only, but especially) suspension-wise, there is hardly anything out there suitable to build up a really good car for winding around on mountain passes (this is my intention for my slivia). So thanks to my very good contacts to Tein Japan (later more on this) i was quite sure that something can be done to sort that problem.

Since some weeks I was discussing with Tein Japan about doing a SPD (Specialized Damper; checkout: http://www.tein.co.jp/e/products/spd.html) for the S12.
After some emails forth and back, finally i can state, that it is definately possible to have a TEIN suspension done for the S12.
:bounce:

At the moment, I am still waiting for some estimated pricing for several specs, which i should get hopefully by end of this week.

Now a few words why i want to arrange this, and why i post this in that forum.
As i am working for www.stohl-racing.com (BTW we´re official Tein dealer) , and was intensively involved in several developments from Tein for Group N rally racing (especially the MY08 Impreza STI Type Gr.N Damper set), i have quite a good contact to some people over there in Japan.

As we are located in Austria, Europe, we will not have any win by having this product sold overseas (if US or Australia).
Also I do not need any other people to have this done, because they would also do a one off only for 1 set (maybe the development costs would be slightly higher, which i would have to carry on my own).

BUT: as a community guy , i would like to help all of you S12 riders to also have the possibility to enjoy a perfect suspension setup provided by Tein :headbang: .

So let´s go on with some details on the project.

As i said, at the moment, i am awaiting the first price estimations.
Meanwhile i also want to check, how many people out there are really interestetd in having such a suspension. Doing thta, i can try to get maybe some better pricing for us all, when we can get a reasonable number of interests!

After i have the pricing, i will order my set via SPD, filling out all the necessary forms with suspension and chassis measurements and data, so Tein can start their work.

Of course after i have done all of that stuff needed by Tein to make the dampers, everyone else can later order the same (or at least similar, if some special requests will be placed by me) spec dampers on his own.
Anyway, i believe that if we pull all together, we could all together get a better pricing on the kit.

As i have absolutely no idea how many people are seriously interested in that, i am very keen on your response.

Best regards from f***** cold Austria

Definitely interested, I was planning on buying some Teins for an S13 or 14 and modding my S12 to make them fit.

What is the plan for the springs tho? Are they staying in the same place as the stock ones, because there is very little room to mount them over the shocks in a typical "coil over shock" layout?

Hey guys,

ok looks nice that there is some interest!

wel regarding the technical solution in detail, that step is coming up next.

My plan would have been, to take existing S13 Front dampers (this would save a lot of money compared to doinga custom S12 one).
As i am quite new to S12s, and have not done the S13 Fr conversion yet (would have done it together with the Tein susp), i did not know, that there are some issues using the S13 ones.
All discussions relating to this topic did not mention any issues.

But as i also posted this info about Tein SPD..... in the US and Aussie forum, i got some response in Australia, the S13 dampers being not ideal!

Any comments on this from you guys?

For the rear i plan to keep the existing setup.
Also to keep necessary mods to a minimum!

Any problems seen on here?

thanks for any constructive comments

Michael

ADDITION: Wow, didn´t realize the f**** high Yen rates though!!!!!! will be a pain for pricing!!, well let´s see
