Default Hi, Noob here lookin 4 buying assistance

Already made a few posts on here asking for info and i'm very impressed with how helpful everyone is, especially Northerner with his in depth parts list for an Auto to Manual Conversion, cheers mate.

Got another few questions, is it normal for an s12 to shake when it goes over 90mph? Just looking at the black one on ebay. Also, what will they do, as standard, flat out? AND, this is a real noob question, whats the difference between a Mk1 and a Mk2?

Any feedback appreciated, cheers

Steve

Hi Steve
I m fairly new to this site as well, however I ve got three S12s, one of them I' ve had quite a few years now.one as a spares car which still runs, & I ve just picked up a project one thats needs some TLC.
These are good solid cars even in standard form with good handling. So at 90MPH this car should be smooth with a fair bit stil to go. Where is it shacking from?, steering wheel? or does it feel like the body? This could be something as simple as the wheels need balancing, or maybe the door or boot seals are worn.

With regard to your Q about Mk 1 & 2. Heres your spotters answer. The Mark 1 was made form 1984 -1986 and can be identified by a thin trim line along the middle of the body, smoother tail lights with fog & reverse light integrated in bumper. Honeycomb front grill & side lights under the Headlights.

The Mk two has bigger bumbers front & rear, thicker trim line down centre of body & a power bulge in centre of bonnet with a straight grill & smaller side lights in the fromt of the wings. Power for standard cars was 135bhp for both Mk1 & 2, however there was some modifications like an improved gearbox and the Mk2s usualy are fully loaded(E/windows P/steering ect) If the car your are looking at on Ebay is this one :4647206310,( which I ve just noticed has been provisionally sold. Is this you?) This is a Mk2(86-88) Then this looks a good one, except for those alloys, but each to ther own, other wise the car looks very good.

Mine are Mk1s and there is a pick on my Newbi intro bit. But I m quite sure there are some better picks of Mk1s on the more established owners pages.
If you have any more Q? then feel free to ask.

Daz

mk2s have slightly larger bumpers and a power bulge style bonnet and the rear lights also incorporate reverse and fog lights rather than the bumper mounted ones in the mk1.

It shouldnt woble at 90.

if it wobbled at 60 it would be wheel balancing. 90 may be something like an unbalanced prop shaft or nackered steering arms etc. Its hard to say.

A standard s12 should feel very smooth and handle fine on motorway driving upto around 115-120 before it becomes quite light on the handling.Up rating the springs and having healthy dampers solves this.
