Question Gauges playing up

Hi,

Got a really strange fault with my mk1 the gauges; rev counter, oil pressure, fuel and boost don't work until I rev the engine hard say about 4-5k.
Then they work and stay on at idle until ignition is switched off.

I have checked the wiring, which is fine on the gauges as well as engine bay but can't see whats going on. The ecu displays no fault, could it be the ecu on it's way out.

Anyway any help is appreciated, as always !

Cheers
Si

how are the rest of the electrics?

i had this problem along with others when the wire connecting the alternator and battery +ve terminals broke, it might be worth using a spare bit of wire to make this connection as its a quick job

i think everything but the engine didnt work till i revved it up, then all would come to life, other than that it sounds the same.

I had a simular problem with mine not so long ago, but I also had the Bat light coming on, but only at idle & only very faintly. But it seamed to still be charging the Bat. I was lucky enough to find a brand new never been used Nissan Alternator, for a fraction of its new & cost to revcon old, which when I put it on solved the problem.
Also check your earths. My fuel gadge was playing up at one point, turned out to be a bad earth on the fuel level sensor, which is earthed to the top of the Fuel pump.
