Default Erm, Worried. (Rear Springs)

Hey,

Was out changing the wheels on the car today, and when I had the rear jacked up..I realised that the springs were not seated correctly. I then realised I could pull the spring out completely? Is that normal? lol

Never dealt with a car with this kind of suspension set-up so I dont know? Both were the same and when lowering the car back down I had to try and make sure that they seated back in correctly.

They are lowering springs by the way, unsure of the type/brand.

this does happen when lowered, you need to make some check straps, this stops the arms dropping to much when jacked up, make them out of thin steel cable and bolt them to the top and bottom of where the rear shocker mounts to.

ive had a look into mk2 escort shockers, the ones you are meant to use are uprated tarmac ones, they are slightly longer than stock escort ones.

S12 shocks are about 23" long, i got a supplier to measure escort ones and they were 19.5" i felt 3.5 inch was a bit much????

the tarmac ones are meant to be longer, but not found anyone to measure them yet.

other option i thought of was the lower mounting for the shock on the s12 is removable, so i was thinking of removing it, and fabricating one with the holes further up to take the short escort shocks, then buy spax gas adjustables, should uprate it nicely.

Default Spax rear shocks

They are now on and what a difference, have'nt changed the springs yet and have had to space either side where the shocker bolt goes through the base with washers till me nylon ones are made by the guy next door lol, but on twelve clicks out of a possible 28 ( the adjustment )they are brilliant and when you jack it up the spring stays in place. got mine from a compnay on e bay,

link here,

£118 inc carriage to the door aswell
