Rad air lock question?
Hi Guys, I hope you can help us?
We have had a new radiator made up and we fitted it this weekend, the thing is it now has an air lock somewhere, the car over heats even though it appears to circulate. We had to remove the old rad to give to the place we had a new one made as they re-used the ends and it was used as a template to make the matrix the same. However the car was in my workshop for a further week being finished off and I had to start it up and move it outside on a daily basis. So the system had no water in it and the pump would have run for the minute or so it was running. Is there any bleed valves or specific re-fill method. Any tips would be greatfully received. Run the engine leave the Heater on Full and leave the Raciator cap off. Also you can expel the air by squeezing the pipes and put the Rad cap back on for a few seconds to build up pressure then release it

Another good tip, is to fill the system up slowly. It may take a while to do this, but it does help to expel the air in the system as you fill it. If you put the coolant in too quickly this can cause airlocks (the same way it can happen when you fill your petrol tank up too quickly).
Plus I always give the hoses a few good squeezes too, as I`m filling it. Like northerner said, this usually works . Regards, Ian.

Interesting post, i'm interesting i overheated and blew the headgasket after a track session, the water pump seems ok but how to test? By removing the thermostat?
According the FSM, the radiator must be fill up NOT in full. |
