Walbro problems

The fuel pump died on my S12 about a week ago, and after a painfully long wait for one to arrive, it did..

Followed the fitting guide in the how to section, and everything went lovely, at.

Put it in, tested it by turning the key onto the second click and it whirred in the lovely way, then fired it up and it ran ok for about 30 seconds and I switched it off to clear tools and such alike away.

Then when I went to start it again it would fire up but only briefly and then die again. Did this about three times, and then decided I best have a look why.

Not the pump doesn't even whirr.

Does anybody have any good ideas why not?

The fuse is ok, and all of the connections seem fine, I just can't see whyit wouldn't work.

Hahaha...what a load of crap, 10 minutes spent in between showers with a multi meter and it was a dodgy ground for the fuel pump!

At least it forced me to upgrade to the Walbro....

Anyone wanna buy a standard working S12 Mk II pump? :P

Ok changed my mind again, got to the petrol stating down the road from my house, and put fuel in, and now it won't start again. The fuel pump doesn't run at all.

After a quick inspection, it had blown the fuel pump fuse, so I replaced the fuse, and the pump still doesn't run, however it doesn't blow the fuse now.
And the positive wire for the pump was quite warm underneath the little storage hole on the right of the boot.

The ground is ok, as it has just been replaced, but feeding 12v to the positive wire for the fuel pump above the carrier, doesnt make the pump run.

Any ideas?

try putting a wire straight from the pump to a good earth in the boot! worked on mine

sounds like possibly you had a short somewhere but you can only really take it out and start again now. check it works straight off the battery first once its removed.

Check your voltage to the fuel pump aswell.

The other possibility is that You may need to run a new feed to it and then use the existing wire to control a relay. Possibly your existing wiring just is not upto the job of a stronger pump. Some people have done this in the past.
