right i have finished spitting my dummy out and im on a mission to finish silvia off before my big day (12 august 2006). I have designed me a manifold and im off to a stainless steel pipe place in worcester to get the bits this weekend or next weekend. Apparently they have lots of bends and shapes so im hopefull. It is a bottom mount as my theory is less piping to go round equals less lag? is this right or wrong? Have got hold of a brilliant tool that files down welds and ports out stuff a treat. Doing my standard manifold at the moment and it really does take off the crap. Will this make much difference on a standard manifold ?????
In contact with turbo technics as im thinking of a variable vane turbo in a t34 format. They havent finished this design yet but might want to test one and i said i would be happy to ablige! This is not set in stone yet. If no good do i go t3 or t34??? answers on a postcard ![]() Could do with someone errrr cough cough 30psi to fit me a piper cam and vernier. i will obviously pay you matey and could try to come to you if thats easier. I will post my piccy up of my manifold design if anyone is interested? ps any help on my silvia is always appreciated!!! ![]() |

Not at the mo mate but just cos i am still stupidly busy withthe motor ready for next race on the 9th of april, good luck with the idea . if you need any help with the design let me know.( no offence) Top mount or bottom mount there is no difference that i have noticed in lag but one deffo advantage will be getting a front pipe sorted for it, my first front pipe looked like a fecking submarine periscope. lol. ![]() ![]()

I need to be certain as to what you require. I guess we are fitting the vernier pulley. But to be honest this isnt worthwhile unless you have a piper cam. So would you change the cam as well?
I would need to check what tool I have to get to the back of the cam as there isn't much space behind the head. Anyway I would have to remove the cam which would require the removal of the bottom pulley and covers to change the belt. This would need the intercooler/rad to be removed as its likely to be in the way. Its not on my setup but may be on yours. I would need to reinstall the rockers shafts and reset the clearances when cold and then when hot as well ideally. Timing the engine up can take a while, at best an hour. Its a bit fiddly to setup and its hard to turn the engine over accurately by hand. I think it took 2 hours to do Adams engine but that was with turning the bottom pulley with my hands and spark plugs still in. At all you're looking at 4 hours really.

yes i will be fitting a piper cam aswell. As you say it aint worth the vernier without the cam. As long as your happy to do it i would be very gratefull. It would just be nice to see what she can do on the rollers. I have my big bar and plate intercooler, the only thing i dont have is a tubby yet and i am not sure at all which one to get. Shaun seems well pleased with his t34, but he will probably be pushing a lot more power than me and im wondering whether it would be too laggy on mine.
Ideally i would like a variable vane jobby. They are dammed expensive but if it does the job its worth saving. No lag and big end power! heaven!!! They have only developed a t28 at the moment and are in the process of a bigger development turbo. |
