Default fuel gauge

having problems with it giving me crazy readings.! when full to the brim, it shows only 2/3 of the way on the car gauge... now it seems to be getting worse, not sure whats in now.!

basicly shows less than whats in, sometimes.. if that makes sense.

any fix ideas please

cheers

If it`s getting worse, you could have a hole in the float in your tank. So it`s filling up with petrol, falling lower in the tank and giving you a lower reading.

Regards,
Ian.

Pull the pump out and test the gauge whilst moving the float.

Default Fuel Guage mis read

Hi
First check the earth wires round the top of the pump housing. I had a simular problem a while ago, turned out to be back earth contact.

my wife's Silvia only goes up to 2/3rds. I checked the float and the earth wires. I think there may be a spot of corrosion on the feed wire but where I don't know. it is on the list for repair but has been for a while. I will get round to it eventually. I tried manually lifting the float right to the top and it still wouldn't go further than 2/3rds. I could try providing a new earth wire first to make sure that is not the problem as there has been a lot of Hammerite slapped round there in the past.
