why did the first engine need a top end rebuild? whats the state of the bottom end. DET top ends are normally pretty good. if its not chances are the bottoms not great either

i would buy the second engine.

when it arrives i would take the cambelt cover off and check condition. i would then take the cam covers off and clean them and the cam areas all up.I would also check the cam cover breather pipes are all clear of debris.

I would also remove the sump, clean it up inside and replace the bigend bearings with some std size acl bearings from apex performance. use some wet and dry to lightly prep the crank(deglaze)( about 45 quid)

new oil and oil filter and spark plugs and paint the block nicely

then just wack it in and i should think it should all be pretty nice.

On the old et route

i would have the head skimmed with a new gasket and cambelt as there never reliable a second time round imo.

Don't buy any performance parts off of ebay. Actually don't buy any part off ebay. Unless it's 1) Cheap and you have low expectations 2) Trusted Seller 3) You're desperate.

No, but probably worth it nonetheless. I hope to go SR eventually, though I'll strip out everything, if I go that far, and more or less build it up from nought.
