Default Smoking engine

Hello I have just rebuilt my Silvia engine (Rebore, new pistons, rings, bearings and re-con turbo etc.) and it's blowing out blue/white smoke when it gets hot (the tailpipe is really oily) . Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem after a rebuild and will it go away eventually?

Also the fuel economy has always been really poor (20mpg), is this normal?

Its most likely to be the turbo.

When I started my engine for the 1st time I used a T2 turbo that I knew didn't smoke as I didnt want to be misled by any smoke that may have been related to the new untested turbo.

Could be unburnt Oil left in the Zorst from the last engine!. My old GTiR did the same when I changed to a Mongoose exhaust which had a film of oil on the inside. is there any play in the Tubby ?

Smoke should only last a short while from oil left in the zorst. New rings can smoke for a short while but needless to say it would have stopped smoking in the time it would have take you to drive the required miles to work out that he is doing 20mpg.

Thanks to everyone that replied with suggestions. Anyway this afternoon I plugged the oil feed to the turbo and the smoke stopped so i guess the turbo seals are faulty (bit annoyed because it was done up by a specialist turbo recon. company last year). There seemed to be loads of side movement on the rotor but i was just told "Put some oil into the bearings and it will be ok" Just wish I had tryed disconnecting the thing before having the block rebored etc. but it has done 130,000 miles so due some attention.

Now I have a bigger turbo and intercooler how much extra power is unleashed by changing the exhaust - I have the std. pipe with a custom straight through back box at moment. Do Silvia engineering still do a 3 inch system ?

cheers

The bhp gains from fitting an exhaust can be absolutely anything. It depends on your exact setup. I cannot imagine the standard exhaust would let you run much more power than 175bhp at the flywheel. If you are not intending on increasing your injector size and changing your management there is not really much point in going 3 inch. 2 3/4" will supply enough air flow. Unless you just want to make lots and lots of noise. ...

Silvia engineering do not exist anymore.

Ok so is there any company that does a big bore exhaust system for the S12 for reasonable cost or do most people make their own systems up?. I was hoping to get 200 bhp at the flywheel with std. engine except S13 turbo and a saab 9000 intercooler if this is possible?

Any custom exhasut company like powerflow etc can make any exhaust fit any car, you rbest bet would be to find the nearest company near you and pop down with the car and tell them what you want.

As for fitting the T25 from the 200 sx, this is a good upgrade and will run a bar of boost ro redline happily along with a nice intercooler ( saab, volvo, cosworth ) the bigger the better mate.

Im assuming your s12 is totally standard at present?
