Anyone any good at rebuilding these or helping to figure out what to change. Over the last year mine has become a bit more clunky when changing down ie like on a roundabout but has no bearing noise. I got a spare and fitted it but this has less clunk but has bearing noise when accelerating. I've looked at the diagram and it seems that you can change the shims etc but looks like a specialist joby

I've just rebuilt a Lada one and it was a piece of cake. Suprisingly they are very well designed and you don't have shims in them, but threaded adjusters built into the bearing caps.
![]() I can't remember what S12 ones even look like any more, but odds are you'll need to shim it ![]() |

I've just rebuilt my own and it wasn't too bad a job (I did have to make an input flange spanner and a rounded drift to reinstall the side shims). I would expect you to be able to replace bearings and use the same shims, especially on the input shaft. To measure the backlash you'll need a DTI and if you need to adjust that then you'll be into measuring shims. Good luck....mine isn't in the car yet so if you need pics or info just let me know?

Mike at MJP seems very helpfull and will be able to get any bearings, oil seals or shims if you need em (01277 374201) As far as a guide goes I couldn't do any better than the service manual (don't get put off by all the shim malarky cos if you're only replacing bearings I bet you can use the same shims, just keep left and right side clearly marked and separate). I didn't change bearings cos mine all checked out o.k. and I was just trying to get an S15 diff into my housing. Nissan suggest a tool to bolt the diff firmly in a vice and another tool to hold the input flange. I found these to be very handy because of the torque settings req'd and I'll post a pic of what I used when I'm in the garage next.....
