Smile Manual choke conversion? (fast idle)

I've been having a few problems with the air regulator on my car and have tried two from scrapyards that were both poor in operation. My Silvy has no air conditioning so I've wired the F.I.C.D. solenoid via a switch on the dashboard to give a manually operated choke for the times when the air regulator fails. Thought this may be a cheap fix for cars with similar problems, the wire from the F.I.C.D. solenoid that needs to be supplied with 12v via a switch can be found just below the windscreen wiper motor in the engine bay, the other side of the solenoid is already earthed so it's as easy as that. As an added bonus the idle speed when this switch is operated has its own adjustment screw on the I.A.A. unit. This could also be switched via a relay if you had a heavy load on the car electrics, lighting or audio perhaps?
