I have igntion problems which i resolved but it still missed, assumed it was the plugs, but instead found the cap was corroded. I think the 8's should be ok.
What might be an idea Shaun is see if you cam you a pulsed type valve (cant remember which type) that the ECU can use for a target rpm. I know Emerald can use one. In addition might be worth you reducing the enrichment %'s that have been set for when the engine is cold.
