T25 turbo for the s12?
Hi guys,
Im guessing the turbo I have on the s12 at the moment will be the standard T2 (Garrett?!?). I have a T25 from a 1986 saab 900 which is oil and water cooled/fed. What I am wondering is what is involved with swapping it out? I shall fit a boost gauge first of all to check what I am running already and the intercooler but other than that is it just unbolt the old one and bolt on the new? Maybe a little clocking of the turbo involed? Im not looking to do this just yet want to be prepared for when I do so. Would like to hear from people that have done turbo swaps on the s12. I have an Apexi SAFC so I guess I can wire this in and set it to +5 accross the board (using stock injectors) just to richen it up a little. What CC injectors do we have at the mo in the s12's and what does anyone know their duty cylce (i think its called)? I would like to run 10-14 PSI. Thanks in advance |

I dunno about the saab turbo, but we commonly get T25s and T25G's off of silvias all the time. That's a bolt up job. you will need to make a new downpipe to connect it to the exhaust though. and maybe need to clockt he turbo like you said. but the Stock T2 uses the standard T2 flanges.
Stock boost is around 7psi, but be sure to remove the pop-up valve if you're planning to run anything over 8psi. This valve vents to atmosphere if it goes over 8psi...it's a safety feature in case the wastegate fails. I THINK the stock injectors are 270cc, but they can keep up. A few guys have been able to consistently run their motors with T25/Gs at over 12psi on the stock injectors and ecu. However, I'd think they were running near 100% duty cycle. Running lots of boost on the ca18et is a bit hard because we suffer from having old engines. A common problem among the higher powered ca18et S12s is stretching the headbolts and blowing gaskets. Bartc_j has blown 3 headgaskets because of this problem. I believe ARP has stronger headbolts though. Currently I'm running a standard ca18et @ 11psi and unintercooled. there has been no real adverse effects due to the increase in boost. This is just basic info...there's tons more over at http://www.club-s12.org/board and also the S12 section at SXOC http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=39 and probably aus12 as well http://www.aus12.bb2.org/index.php Last edited by indecisive; 28-01-2006 at 18:19. |

i ran 221bhp on standard injectors with t25 at 18psi, i'am running 17psi at the moment on a t3/04e and have had it up to 24psi, the head bolts are still ok and are standard ones, ARP don't do uprated bolts for the ca18et although they do them for the ca18det, this is the only week link on my engine, if i had some uprated head bolts i would run about 28psi on my engine, at the end of the day, its mainly down to fueling and how good its been set up, although you do need uprated internals, the stock motor in good condition is good for around 265bhp.

Thats good to know seeing as i opened up the rocker of the 55k engine today with 30 psi , reece and pukka to remove the camshaft and fit my piper cam from my old engine and the inside is great, so clean and looked after
