Default handbrake

Has anybody fitted hydraulic handbrake to S12 - ??recommend or not - my std one is ok - new cable and is tightened up - works ok - holds car but not v good at actually skidding - trying to drift the old girl by diffs actually getting it to skid - my donkey diesel passat is easy to get into a skid... Is there any quick and easy solution i am overloking?????

I'm going to be fitting one, but not done it yet.

Ones I've had in the past have been super effective.


Weld the diff.

am i right you have to keep the mechanical one operational too for MOT?? im sure i read somewhere it will fail if not.

yea you need the standard handbrake to pass the mot as i was going to run a bigger set of callipers on the back that didnt have the s12 type handbrake mechanism and run a hydraulic one but no mod i found would make it pass a test........

MOT station will only look at handbrake links moving, so leave the cables on so it all moves and the hydraulic handbrake makes it look like it works spot on.
Never had any MOT preoblems.

If you want to drift you need o get soe algnment kit. Factory positions are all wrong.

Default alignment kit

sorry for bein a thicko but what is oem alignment kit and where would one get it?? yeah i want to drift - will go sideways ok - welded diff - but actually getting into a slide with handbrake is tough - poor reponse from handbrake even though feels v tight and holds well - and pads seem ok.. but look into alignment - any advice welcome

Did you get a hydraulic hand brake fitted in the end? I want to retain the cable and not do anything to mess up the MOT. Please can anyone tell me whats involved?
