Default S12 coming back as my everyday car :D

I popped over to my parents house yesterday where my S12 is sitting on their drive (where it has stood since JAE) looking very sorry for itself.

For the past few years I've not used the S12 as a proper car because I've always had to come and go from work in one of the vans. These days the vans are kept at work so I've been using my Discovery for running about in.

So why run a Discovery that does about 25mpg when I could be running my S12 on LPG for less dollar??? Discovery can just be for towing.

Is there any way I can quieten the exhaust down without losing pefromance? Maybe a smaller tail pipe would look a bit more grown up too? And I'll remove the rear window sticker...

Just need a couple of grand to throw at it now to have the LPG conversion done, brakes replaced, problem with the rear wheels (noise/weird tyre wear), oh and a bit of spraying done!

Good plan?

it ran out of steam ,you could quiet it down by adding anougther smallish straight through silencer at the front as i guess you have just a rear silencer

If you're worried about loosing performance then why run it on Gas? You must be able to grab an old diesel for under a grand.... That'd save a few pennys too

Lengthen the tailpipe from the back box. longer tail outlet pipe=quieter exhaust tone according to my mate that desgns Jag exhaust sytsems. A couple mor einches should make an appreciable difference

LPG runs the same performance as petrol. It becomes dual fuel anyway which means you can select pertol or LPG.

Yeah I only have the 1 silencer at the moment with a 5" tail pipe. I might do something with that as it's a bit loud for everyday use.

The 95 RON stuff? I've seen something about LPG with an octane rating of 110! I assume that's not at the pump though and it could be as low as 90!

At the end of the day, if I can do normal driving for 32p per litre (that's the current price here) and switch to Optimax if I want to go on the track, etc. then it's perfect. I don't need top performance to cruise along the B roads and sit in traffic!

Yes, I heard gas is 110RON as well.

to my knowledge its only a slight difference in power and you will cover the cost of the conversion as lpg is cheaper so the more milage you do the cost of the conversion is covered

I was only thinking that the lower the RON the more likely Detonation or pre-ignition is, you may need to "de-tune" it a bit thus making it less fun when you do want to go for a burn. Taking a small step back can feel like a country mile when you're really used to something.

Seriously though, hat's off to you for doing it, you obviously really enjoy the car and want to find a way to use it all the time. It's not a route I'd consider but it doesn't mean I don't respect what you're doing. I didn't mean to come across like I was having a dig.
