100W bulbs are for off road only . . . but as use them as my silvia seems to spend as much time off road (see getting fixed on the driveway) than it does on the road
They were an improvement over the previous bulbs, no problems with them. With higher watt bulbs you tend to get the light pattern diffusing a bit. If you really want to see at night I recommend having 2 hella rallye 3000 FF's one with pencil beam lens and the other with a driving lens, spot on (no pun intended) . |

Almost any jap car with pop up lights. I used to have a set of cristal clear lights on my s13 witch are pritty good and cheap. From china on Ebay. As for fitting higher watt lamps you will draw more current and could melt the wiering loom to the lights incl the Switch. I think the problem could be the reflective part of the lamp getting dull or coming off, or not anuf power getting to the lamps. Bad earths!!! Had bad lights on all VW I have driven as well, so a electiction friend came up with the Idear of fitting larger cabels to the head lamps and using the old system just to switch them on via a relay. The problem with most (old) cars is you are trying to get over, is the large amont of small shitty cable, conections, switches and relays. With this done, what a diffrens it made and I still used the old bulbs. This may need a auto electrition to fit unless you confident. I think I will do all I can on my s12, New head lamps, better bulbs (correct watt) and larger wirering, but not to big as the risistans will also go up. Can any electical dude confurm this??? Or by a Million candel power torch and stick it to the bonnet.

HID lamps.
In answer to your question re above.
The silvia and other cars wiring looms are designed to handle a certain amount of current at the nominal voltage of 12 Volts. If you fit higher power lamps either internally or externally and try to run them off of the existing loom, the lamps will be drawing more current through the loom to satisfy their need. This will in turn lead to a situation where the loom will heat up. Now, as the the wiring looms in the S12's are pretty old, there will be ageing of the conductors leading to an increase in their resistance, this is inescapable, the net result no matter which way you slice it is; A heating effect with either excessive or higher current drawn. If you really do want more powerful lamps and want to use them in the original position then as a matter of safety, I would make a replacement loom, connectors and all, and use a relay fed from the battery which would be switched from the original light stalk or control relay. This of course seems rather a lot of work but, considering I do not know exactly the headroom designed into the loom and taking into account the ageing effects of it this, I'm afraid to say, is the best I can offer at this time. kind regards, john |

I will be going the HID route though. I have HIDs on my Discovery and when you're driving along, everyone elses lights look like candles in comparison. HID is the way to go, without any doubt. Also they're only around 35W each!

Do these fit?
I have just had a look at the HID's on the ebay site following your link. These lamp units are built into a set of pop up lamp covers. I'm sure some chap associated with the S12 club had built a set of these. I have a sneaky feeling he may be directly or indirectly involved with these on the ebay site, my thinking here is that these units would fit the silvia with minimal adjustment.
If you decide to go with these on the strength of this let me know how you get on. Best regards, john |

Move the decimal point and I'll have them (£14.99)
Bit rich for me after paying only £250 for the car. I know Hans retro fitted some covers to the top of his lamp covers and they looked sweet |
