You say you have raised the fuel pressure to 2.5 bar?

Not got the service manual here in front of me but isn't this approx correct, I'm sure the service manual says 35psi?

I believe it should show 35psi with zero vacuum, ie disconnecting the vac feed to the pressure regulator. That means it would probably run about 28psi at idle.

However in your first post you said its running rich as hell, but then you say if you unplug the AFM it runs richer yet idles better.

How does the engine behave when you rev it up when its misbehaving? Is it misfiring at all? Also what does the exhaust sound like? Other than lumpy, has its tone changed, and is it popping at all? Have you considered using a standard turbo to throttle body pipe to simplify matters?

Have you thought it might also be an inlet manifold gasket leak?

When you unplug the throttle position sensor does the idle increase by a few hundred rpm? It should do.

Do you know any friendly MOT stations that will allow you a quick free CO2 test? Would be interesting to see how lean/rich it is running.

Have you checked continuity within the loom? It would be good to check the ECU is receiving full voltage. Also check this at each injector terminal. I would also go as far as checking the resistance of the wiring from the AFM to the ECU (although you may have already done this)

I probably can come up with more ideas. But the thing to remember is that normally the problem will be a nice simple one, but there are quite a few possibilities of what it could be. At least it runs, always makes it alot easier to identify a fault.

Not meaning to thread poach but started my car just now its puffing out blue smoke when revved mainly and its coming out from around the turbo itself. The general idle of the car just seems different and the note from the exhaust and engine has changed . If the turbo is totally shafted is this gunna cause what im experiencing on boost? May seem a dumb question

It is the inlet fannymould gasket that is causing the problem. It is perished and falling apart especially where No.2 cylinder is. The car will be ready to take on the next 21 years sometime tomorrow.
