Clutch problem Help (again)
Hi sorry i know i am always on here asking for help but my engine just keep coming up with problems.
After all the help everyone on here has given me my engines starts and revs which is more than it was doing 6 weeks ago. Apart from her idle being a little low she seems ok, except, i have come across another problem. when she is running you can't put her in gear, you press the clutch down but the gears won't go in. if she is switched off they will and if you have her up on axle stands she will run the wheels but if i put her in gear then start the car it takes of down my drive totally oblivious to the clutch being used? Also has anyone got pics of where the clutch cable is? I can't find it? Thanks again Paul |

Its a hydraulic clutch mate, no cable. The slave cylinder is mounted on the right of the bell housing, you'll see it if you get under the car. Ya can trace the pipes back from there. Ya prob dry of fluid.

I bet you the clutch disc is stuck and as said the clutch slave or master cylinder is Fubar. My mates had a similar problem and we solve it by bleeding the system and pumping on the pedal afterwards to release it. Or try push it in gear to try and release it

Ok i'm new to hydraulic clutches, i have bled the air out the slave cylinder but it still doesn't work. The slave cylinder dust cover was full of fluid so i took it from the car and cleaned it and sealed the attching pipes but seemed to have built some vacuum in the dist cover its drawn all the air out of it? Does it sound like its bust? where can i get a new one? Any other suggestions are welcome.
when you say force it in gear you mean when its running with fluid in? |

Ya can get a new one for nearly nothing from any decent motor factors.
Does the pedal feel either really heavy or really light when ya press it? |

If the clutch disk is stuck try rocking the car backwards and forwards (as northerner says). You need to do this with the engine switched off and the car in third gear. I had to do this with my Dad`s old A40 last year after it had been stood for 12 months .
If the slave cylinder seals are shot, the pedal usually goes light or drops to the floor. If the piston in the cylinder is stuck, then the pedal is normally rock hard and can`t be pushed down. Have you had the engine or gearbox out at all. Because the clutch may be mis-aligned. Hope some of this may help . Regards, Ian.
