I work with Omex ECUs every day so that would be the way I'd go. Megasquirt CAN be a very powerful tool, but the technical support for them is very little. They are a DIY project that's only suitable for someone with excellent electronics skills, and the software isn't that good. Omex have people on the end off the phone to help, and Richard (omex boss) has owned an s12 or 2 in his time

would agree with Danny, Megasquirt is powerful if you are DIY mapping savvy (im not!). the Omex product range is popular although my personal experience with them wasnt that good.

I run my s12 on Megasquirt with ca18et and there is no problem with it whatsoever.
You dont even have to be an electronic specialist to install it. The MS2357 works with s12 sensors and does not reqiure any hardware changes to the MS or engine equipment except ading an air temperature sensor. |

thanks for the info lads. i was looking at emerald ecu's after getting a catalogue with retro cars or something. rewiring the engine doesn't bother me cos i'll be changing a few things anyway. lookin for value for money and ease of use. i would like to map it myself but it's something i have never done. having said that i never did anything with turbo cars until i got my s12 and now theres not much standard left on the car.
nobody is going to show me how to map a car as they will be doing themselves out of a job so theres only one way i'll learn anything. how does the bottom pulley work out with the position sensor? is there one for a det available? hows the black legend coming on jackiefan?

an omex 600 is cheaper than an emerald
crank sensor will need a toothed wheel adding to the pulley, can be supplied with the ECU. Fitting can be done yourself, but I really would recomend mapping be done by someone experienced. Ignition timing just can't be mapped properly on the road, you need the use of a dyno to optomise each load point. Last edited by sideways danny; 22-12-2008 at 22:00. |

nice one. i may be able to use a local rolling road belong to a chap that races a national hot rod. hes shit hot with carbs but not so sure with injection.
i want to learn everything thats my biggest fault. there is another company in wicklow that fit and map omex. i've seen there rb26 engined s13 drift car that runs good. seems very reliable. do omex sell direct?

you working for them Danny?
Omex is somebody elses product originally if im correct? aussie ecu (autronic?), bought the rights etc? have looked long and hard at moving away from Emerald, but given the options, only the expensive Motecs do appreciably more, but are mega bucks each to their own, but i have lots of maps for the Emerald (in various s12 engine spec/turbo/states of tune) that i can let people have free if they go emerald. VEMS looked good, essentially a megasquirt derivative but commercially developed, but i notice Phatbob has dropped hios involvement with VEMS now so the development in the UK may slow.
