Default S12 mot

My MOT runs out on the 18th, booked it in for the 13th this week.

Can someone enlighten me on alittle curiousity i've got bugging me at the moment, I took out my BRIDE seat and swapped it back to the stock drivers seat, however I'm still using a road legal 4-point harness with the stock seat. ( read in the harness manaul that its legal aslongs as the harness straps sit inbetween the headrests. )

I'm just curious as i've only got two seats in the car, the backs completely stripped, minus all the rear belts to, left rear, middle and right rear. Will the MOT tester instantly fail it seeing as they've been removed or will he just go alright, he made my job easier only have to check the front two? I'm skeptical and begining to think it's going to be a spectactular fail and come the 18th my s12 will be off the road....

If anyone can clear this up with me I'd appreciate it, Cheers.

I'm almost sure it will be OK if the you have taken both the seats and the belts out together and not left one without the other. Only problem you might have is that on the V5 and the vosa records your car will be shown as a 5 seater

it will be fine if the seats and belts have been totally removed they cant be tested for or failed on if they are not their, only know this as mine is stripped out in the rear.

Well I could always fill in the "changed details" part on the V5 before it goes into the MOT, then send it away after, least that way they know I intended to update the details.

Actually looking at my V5 it does not state the number of seats in the "number of seats, including driver" section

Also checked on the vosa website, MOT check and it doesn't come up with anything regarding number of seats, I'll still change it anyway just so it is registered with them.

Leave the seats as it is. You don't want the DVLA thinking you've radically changed the chassis and go all SVA on your arse.

I agree with 30psi.

I've had a number of cars pass MOT's no problem without rear seat belts if the rear seats aren't there. Don't worry about it.

I agree with Lincolnlad, I was told a few years ago that if I left my bald tyred spae wheel in the car they would fail it, if I took it out they would have nothing to fail.

On a side note, my everyday car was due for mot and insurance at the start of Feb, i insured with Kwikfit (the cheapest I found) and got a free MOT as well. I booked it in and they failed it on the rear discs and pads, then quoted me £263.

I had got a quote the day before as I knew they were ready for £55 from the local factors.

I immediately took it half a mile down the road to a place that do loads of trade mots every day and after paying £40 within an hr I had a new MOT.

a lot of this MOT stuff is rubbish and it is in the opinion of the tester to pass or fail, not wishing to dismiss safety here but you get my drift.

I've no rear seat but the belts are still in and frayed but it still passed the MOT as the tester said he couldn't test the belts as it was pointless as there were no seats. It all depends on the tester.

the MOT didn't come back with anything regarding the seatbelts, it failed but only with

really dim rear number plate lights
Front right arch needs a bit of filler as it's abit rusty and jagged ( lol....typical for it's age. )
Needs 3 new tyres
And the handbrake tightened up.

but on the way back to the house I noticed this extra whistling.....to my amusement my boost controller piping had split and burst.....lucky I only did a few miles before checking it out. Mind you it was an old piece of silicone piping and we've had upto and over -20oC in scotland recently so thats the reason.

anyway I've been given a positive it'll pass next week aslong as I do my bit to get the lights and filler sorted.
