i wonder if they are the same as the z32 discs, i know the calipers are the same exept the z32's are ally and a lot lighter, i had a z32 disc for an example, but the bloody scrap man took it with a lot of scrap off the back yard , have you thought of anything to uprate the rear ? i read somewhere the other day about usind z31 rear arms, hubs, discs etc, as they use a vented disc on the rear.

yea now that i have done the rear i have found out that the s14 use the same type of s12 hand brake mechanism, but as for the discs and callipers i have never looked into them.

There wont be any need at all to uprate the rear brakes to something from another model.

great how too m8.
as for the rears, these days its not bout uprating the rears, more of changing them to something servicable i.e being able to get the parts easy for it.

BTW, the S14 calipers will work with 315mm brembo discs as supplied by Dans Brakes from SXOC Might have been worthwhile doing that (although bearing in mind that they are bloody heavy, bells would be lighters).

Yeah could be easier to save the hub machining by using the larger M3 discs.
I ended up overcooking some rear brakes, the vented Z31 discs may be a reasonable type of upgrade option if someone was going to change the discs. Its also not necessary to change the front wheel bearings when its been upart.

Im surprised if you found the std rear brakes to be insufficient
What happened? A healthy setup with decent pads and at most a few grooves is all that should be needed

On really heavy use they overheated to the extent that they were smoking and faded. At first I assumed the rear calipers were seized on, but they turned out to be free when I jacked the car up.
The vents must count for a lot but don't know if you'd feel the difference unless you are going really heavy on them. Unfortunately the brakes are great on the S12 but just don't stand up to continued heavy abuse.

Was this still with std front calipers?

Yeah but note that the rear were more knackered than the front. Reason I got out the car to look was the smell and whiffs of smoke more than anything. But kids, if you do cook your brakes don't remain stationery as it can warp the discs as the disc cools unevenly.
I haven't driven my Datsun in anger enough to see how the rear drums fair up after some abuse. Not used the brakes to any decent capacity on that if I'm honest. Only tested to see if the balance has gone a wrongun with the Z32 calipers. The S12 has a 1" master cylinder, which is actually bigger than an S13 ones, so its not essential to upgrade to the Z32 ones which is a plus.
