yes i think a lots to do with the extra weight on the studs, with my turbo looking something like the dinosaurs ribs on fred flintstones car, i'am sure if i had not made a big brace that it would have stripped by now,

I expect they will mate although that could be a good thing or a bad thing as they may just crumble.

OK bottom half of the gasket nearest the bulkhead blew out and caused a massive tractor like bang at 130mph!!!!

I might add that the doctor was driving the car at the time lol

We went to the seafront at brighton and all was going well,i offered a drive of my car to the dr_silvia, he was steadily cruising on the carriageway on the way home at 80mph when i told him to boot it.

So at 130 we heard a mettalic like tin noise then bang I got greedy earlier in the day and turned the boost up some more think i over cooked it by a turn as we are pretty sure this was det.

Pulled into a layby and the turbo and manifold was pretty much glowing white and spitting flames out the bottom corner of the blown gasket.

I dont know 100% if the det etc caused the gasket to blow out or not but no doubt the turbo and manifold will be coming off again tomorow aswell as inspecting the plugs etc

Just what the doctor ordered

greed

i wish i had known you hadnt taken it that far before, i thought it was safe love the way you preach to me about not using a guage to set boost then tweak your own the next day lol don't think we've done any major damage though so we should be happy for that can ye keep hold of the buggered gaskets tho cos i wanna have a butchers at em

You 2 are terrable. Fit bloody boost guages that actually tell you an accurate reading before winding your boost up 'willy nilly' !!!!. . Going 130mph on your private road with unknown boost and standard fuel pump, larger turbo will most definatly of caused DET.Sorry for nagging or whatever,i dont wish to row. Im just surprised you did that after seeing the state of my mk2s piston from a high speed run at only 14psi. Especially on your freshly fitted new engine.

i've never had any probs, at 26 psi and a quick burst at 30 psi. my copper gaskets are still in one piece, the exhaust manifold was glowing cherry red, but the gaskets are still in one piece.

The reason i turned it up was because it didnt feel like it was running a bar anymore, as ive had boost controllers that have lost boost over time, why would i try and cook my engine lol

Jon didnt you run 20+psi on your old 8v in the black one with a t25 and standard fueling?
