Windscreen removal
just wondering if anyone has any tips on getting a windscreen out of a s12 without breaking it? i havent really got the money to pay someone to do it, who may break it and still charge me??
i was thinking stanley blade, or maybe i could burn thru the old glue with some meths or a blow torch? the windscreen looks pretty stuck in the car is scrap.... |

on each side and the bottom of the glass there are three plastic covers which go over the seal... remove these, then use a length of steel wire (bicycle cable or cheese cutter) to cut through the sealant...

start it off with somthing with a bent blade like than on an oldschool can opener... the proper tool to break the seal is a cheese cutter like device they're quite cheap.. not sure how much difference it would make though.. good luck |

cheese cutter/brake cable idea sounds like a winner tbh, just find a good place to dig out some of the sealant to put the cable through, and cut away i cant see why this wont work with a little time and take it slow.
nice one !!!!

job done ! cut at one of the sides with a stanley blade, then spliced a brake cable, and just used one strand at a time, after a few pulls it starts to smoke and your away..... took at least an hour.
now i just have to get the smashed one out of my other silvia and get this one fitted, and im away! well, ive just got to get it running and get a gearbox mount welded up, bleed the brakes, fit the clutch and bleed that, get the exhaust welded back on....and stop the rear brakes sticking on the handbrake and then see what it fails the mot for......+ i need a rad and a new rubber for the manual gearbox mount |
