overtime the pistons seized against the caliper body and the seals. You can get the pistons out and if they are not damage/pitted etc you can get away with cleaning them up and popping them back in. if not then refurbs are £100 a side

I had this problem with a mondeo yesterday. Only way to know for sure is to back-off & disconnect the handbrake and check all the parts invidually. Check to see if the actuator on the rear of the caliper isn't seized. Then check to see if the caliper slides are free moving, the piston in the caliper and the pads in the carrier.
If it's all free you're looking at a handbrake cable.

mine has done this a few times, first time is was a seized handbrake cable, and the last couple was the actual mechanism, i just squirted the lever the cable connects to with a little WD40, and has been fine since.

Free 'em off, rebuild and pump the brake pedal. If they don't bind, work the handbrake on/off. If it is the handbrake mechanisim that should provoke the bind.

Default rear brake probs and others, mild silvia refurb!

my sills are actually from a nissan micra & fit ok, i just bent then a bit more over a scaffold bar & they a perfect fit!

once i have finished the sills this week coming (i've cut them off & prepped it ready) i'll tackle the brakes

the brakes are my big worry really, i've soaked them in wd-40 & i'll keep doning it until i i get around to make a start on them,

done some little modifications in the looks department like painting all the chrome bits matt black as i thought the chrome looked out of place for the age of the car?????

i feel it looks far better! i'm going to loer the front of mine more to give it a little rake! at the moment its lowered about 70-80mm but it sits level! so the front may go to 100mm,

i have some cool rims in 14" but they dont clear the rear calipers, is it ok to fit longer studs n spacer, how do the rear studs come out?
