more trouble
hey, news to my last thread about my ignition problems, got them sorted.
had the firing order out by one and ia had piston 3 firing where piston 2 was, was rubbish for a bit. anyway, i opened up a new kettle of fish. my car has an intermittent fault with the starter. sometimes it will fire up no problem, others, i can hear the relay closing, i can hear the starter motor trying, but no cranking. also, my s12 runs really rough on idle, and i have found it quite hard to get a decent idle speed out of it. it will take a long while for the revs to settle to idle speed, say 850rpm, it willl start up from cold at around 1400rpm,will drop to 800-1000rpm,then as the temp guage reads half temp, the idle pics up to around 1250rpm. could it be the lambda sensor or the air flow sensor or something? help needed as train to work is poo

my starter was like that for months, finaly got around to changing it the other day apparantly if you take it off and carefully undo the bolts on the smaller cylinder bit you can clean it out...... i havent done this tho as i had a spare so i dunno whats what if your stuck just bash it with a jack handle or put the car in gear and rock it.....
as for the idle try cleaning the afm with some carb cleaner spray or similar, or if you want to lower the idle wind the idle adjust screw on the inlet manifold a bit?

its not that i want to change it, it is as low as its gunna go before it starts playing funny games and bounces between 500rpm and 800rpm,its that
there is just so much variability. it also misfires slightly when you are doing below 1500rpm at about 30mph, higher speeds and rpm's its fine how much does a new starter cost?

i think also i have a different inlet manifold attached, and the idle spped screw sits under the spring loaded cam for the main throttle, i think riece said it was off of a v6 or something??

got any pics of it? the only inlet manifold i can think of that it would be is the ca20e one, a v6 one would be totally different, maybe its just the throttle bodie he changed?

you dont wanna touch the screw that touches the main throttle cam lever thingy.
firstly sounds with missfire and such, similar to what mine did when the dump valve was leaking air, or it could just be an airleak in the pipe from turbo to throttle body. the idle screw is on the side of teh inlet manifold. ill find a pic.

so what does the screw below the cam throttle thingy do? i just thought it was a stopper that the cam rests on, thus an idle controller.
