Stuttering and dieing at 2-3k
I hadn't moved the car for around a week, it got buried in snow while I was away for a few days and yesterday when I tried to start it it turned over sparked but did not start traced the fault down to the plug had come lose from the ecu. Now when I drive the engine stutters and feels like it's going to die between 2-3k revs, and I have to rev the nuts off it and slp the clutch driving round town to keep it going.
Anyone have any ideas? |
check plugs, fuel filter, leads and the maf :D
Everything lead wise ect is ok and it runs perfectly otherwise ticks over ok and other than between 2-3k revs when driving all is ok, that's what's got me beat.
Try a different afm and check the plug is in good nick:)
my afm packed up so i tried another 2 which did not work, 1 of them would not tickover, then went like a bastid on boost, the other ticked over perfect then run crap between 2 and 3k, then i had a cracked wire near the plug that made it tickover crap, then i had a cracked wire on my fj20 lead to the afm, that ran crap allover,i just don't know what to sugguest, oh yeah, check your afm:D

Are you currently stoned Shaun, sounds it........ i currently am . Its new years day after all :p

Wouldn't start again today, had Greenflag out the car is turning over, sparking but I have no power going to the injectors. The engine control fuse is ok, so is there a relay somewhere or something else simple I'm missing?
Any help appreciated. |
if your anywhere near wigan i have a spaire mk2 ECU you could try
Thanks for the offer mk.2 ecu would be perfect but I'm down in Kent.
Should of said there is a red and a green light on the ecu when the ignition is switched on, don't know if this means anything?
this is the ecu fault diagnosis system. it may be worth your while checking the error codes if somebody here wants to tell you how too. I dont have the workshop manual next to me at the moment
Thought it was but couldn't see how to check it, I also thought that the the engine had to be running to for this to run. Otnher than that I know it's counting the flashes and looking up what they mean.
I have the haynes bluebird manual. will type as its written to check the fault codes.

it's not showing any fault so it's off to the garage with it and that will mean parting with loads of hard earned I expect, not what's wanted at this time of year:furious
Apparently my ecu has had it, so what I need is another ecu to test this asap so if anyone has got a spare ecu and local to kent I would greatly appreciate it. I really need to get the car back on the road by the weekend if possible.

Today so I could get my car transported to a auto-electricans i had to call my recovery out again.
Guy turns up and goes through all the rigmarol of checking everything, he found that I now had power to the inectors but a weak spark he proceded to dig into the coil conection on the dizzy cap only to tell me that it was corroded and now " had no silver in it", I thought I'd just seen him dig it all out with a screwdriver but what do I know? What I needed I was told is a new cap and all will be fine, and off he went. So off I trotted and bought a new cap, fitted it, turned the key, nothing turned over ect but didn't start. Phoned recovery again second guy turns up and prods round tests all the electrics, turns the car over gets a plug out and it's bone dry. So what we have now is the fuel pump pumping, spark plugs sparking and inectors getting power but no fuel getting getting into the cylinders:annoyed: So 3 hours after the initial call the car finaly got towed off to where I asked for it to go in the first place. |
Seems we have the same problem i hope you get it sorted so you can tell me what to do next:confused:
i had a simmilar probs now it may sound stupid but i am not undermining your machanical skills
as i was fallen into the same trap too but have you checked the fuel hose that goes to the engine as if it has slipped off it will show the same symptoms roughly only a thought hope it helps |
Just spocken to the auto-electrician and at the moment it's looking like a dodgey coil not giving a powerfull enough spark of a knackered ecu as it also seems to be over fueling
Had a word with the auto-electrician this morning and it looks like the coil had had it so that's been replace with another type along with the ignition amplifier and converted to run on the new type. Also the pulse rate sensor is being replaced so fingers crossed it should be on the road friday.
Check the larger of the 2 white multiplugs down by the coil for corrosion or a broken wire as this was the problem with my car not starting and sounds the same as what yours is doing.
It was deffinately the coil ect these have been replaced and the car fired up while I was there the only thing that needs sorting now is the fueling which apparentley is over fueling at the moment. I hope to hear more this afternoon.
you could go for an msd setup www.msd-ignition.com
theres a place called real steel in uxbridge that can get the parts. MSD units can be had off ebay too, I know this is a fairly common choice with the modded honda's HTH |
Yep my old man has MSD on his corvette.:)
Unfortunately not cheap. I will help my mate fit a Mallory system to his turbo beetle which has boost retard, so he can retain good bottom end torque |

What else did you replace other than the coil? |
So for the Auto-electrican has replaced to coil, ignition module and the pulse rate module? the bit that reads the pulse rate to the injectors.
It's being a slow job as the boss is doing it himself and he only works monday, wednesday and friday, he's never there when I go round or phone and no one else seems to know exactly what's happening with it:mad: |
 I thought you said the car was running now and all that it needed was a fuelling issue sorting out?
I went round there yesterday morning and I was told that the fueling needed sorting and that was the last I heard, it was fired up while I was there but the guy doing it wasn't. Hopefully I should know more tomorrow.
Did they say why they thought there was a fuelling problem?
Not as yet all I was told was that it was over fueling.
The car is overfueling and flooding and whatever is done it still floods, any ideas anyone?
