missfire

last nite driving home from work, got a bad missfire, between 2500k and 3k, checked plugs leads and vacum lines, and when i slowed down my power steering went heavey a few times... Im confused....

Oscar 23-02-2008 16:01

any sugestions? Coilpack? Would an s15/s14/s13 coilpack fit?

PukkaSilvia 23-02-2008 16:02

I would check all the following starting with a compression test

air flow meter
air flow meter plug
spark plugs
Head gasket blown
Ht leads inc king
coil earth
rotor arm
dizzy cap
boost/vacuum hoses

Good luck

PukkaSilvia 23-02-2008 16:04

It doesnt have coilpacks. No they wont fit

Oscar 23-02-2008 16:06

cheers! Well i checked the plugs, leads, vacum, maf was cleaned last week, i hope its not the hg, it dosnt over heat, no coolant loss... And its fine apart 4 that 500rpm gap

Oscar 23-02-2008 16:08

no coil pack? What an amateur! Lol, well looks like my sr build will have 2 speed up

PukkaSilvia 23-02-2008 17:08

it has an individual coil obviously, Just not 1 'coilpack' per cylinder like the s13 det engine has

The coil is underneath the air flow meter but tbh i think a compression test is the first thing to do,if that is ok followed by a new set of plugs

seems coincidental that you cleaned the afm last week. Why did you do that and how.

zxocmars 23-02-2008 17:50

Leads that are on it are practically brand new, from Nissan, Plugs too.

Could be the AFM

Oscar 23-02-2008 17:59

cleaned the afm idle was a bit funny, cleaned it using a kit i bought in germany a couple of years ago, a spray and very tiny soft brush, cost me over a hundred euro from merc, had a amg c43, wish i had known then and just used wd40

s13eater 23-02-2008 18:01

you don't want wd40 carb or brake cleaner would be best.

Oscar 23-02-2008 18:02

right im gona try 2 other afms, got a primera 1, dont think it wil work, and an s13, s15 work? Ive got one but its bout 20miles away

s13eater 23-02-2008 18:04

if its an early s13 then it will work.

Oscar 23-02-2008 18:06

good thing i didnt then lol

Oscar 23-02-2008 18:07

yep prefacelift, had it on my old silvia

Oscar 23-02-2008 18:32

ok just went 2 move car, when i pulled off, revs went nicely as normal, when it got 2 2k it just cut out! And volt meter at idle saying 13.4, normal driving is reading 14.6-15.3

15.3 seems a little high, i can't check owt for ya 2nite fella as i'am having a few drinks.

Oscar 23-02-2008 18:38

tis ok, cheap gauge anyway, im meant 2 b in town in 20mins lol

PukkaSilvia 23-02-2008 19:01

well if its just cutting out at 2.2k then its not hg. Change the afm

Oscar 23-02-2008 19:07

fuck it il change it now, the missus can wait, i might try wat i did on my lancia, got a wire and looped the afm wire on its self, idled at 3k lol tho i reckon the silvia wil just cut out

s13eater 23-02-2008 19:45

you would not believe how many faulty afm's i tried, one ticked over fine, then cut out when reved above 3k, another one din't want to tickover ,but went like feck over about 3k, the fourth one i tried sorted it

Oscar 23-02-2008 19:56

odd. To be honest it should have worked OK ish with only a real difference at higher RPM.

Could well be a problem with the wiring to the AFM, or maybe the TPS

30psi 25-02-2008 10:46

TPS will only make a difference at idle, if the switch is open it advances the timing and the revs raise. If the switch is permanently closed (the 2 wires shorted together maybe) it may confuse the ECU as it will think the thottle is shut even if it isn't.

Do an ECU code check, you stamp on the throttle to tell the ECU the switch is working so then it won't bring up the code, but of course it will tell you if it sees no change. An ECU check might bring up other stuff too.

Oscar 25-02-2008 11:32

well it nearly cuts when its cold, but had a fiddle this morning, and when i wiggled num 1 injector it stutted! Maybe found it

Oscar 27-02-2008 14:13

injector had a crapped conection, sorted! Tho now it idles at 1200rpm lol! Im sure this engine hates me hehe
