Suspension?!?!?!

Was wondering how much effort it is to fit/be able to fit coilovers all around an S12....?can remember reading they have independant springs & shocks, so cant fit coilies without a fight LOL...
or, at that note, how much effort to fit an S13 rear subframe, to also get an LSD into it...?

s13 subframe has been done, but only once that i know of, and it was major fabrication on a race car. the shock mounts are not strong enough to fit true coilovers.

LSD has been done with some shaft modifications

if you check ebay, there are coilovers for the S12..!

they come from oz, but sensible money

they were on a few days ago, lost the link, but keep checking.. deff saw them!

Ebay S12 Coilovers

Doesn't look like they allow for castor adjustment though.....?

edit: how can it be a set of 4 ? Fixed rears maybe ?

Probably not worth it tbh

JackieFan 08-01-2009 08:44

X2 for that. For True coilovers you have to cut out the old turrets and weld in new ones with a plate to accept the top mounts, you'd then have to strengthen the trailing arm to take the added loads from the coilover unit.

Absolutely nothing wrong with shocks and springs on the rear, only problem is getting the height set to what you want, but that would be no worse than getting your spring rate matched in using Aftermarket coilovers designed to fit a different car.

Spax will build you a shock to the dimensions you want and there is a company on here that have all the measurements for the standard springs and will manufacture a set of replacements again, to your spec.

The Coilover sets you can get for the S12 are Just S13 fronts with springs and shocks on the rear, they have an adjustable perch so that you can alter the ride hight +- about 2 inches

CamInHead 08-01-2009 11:13

Plus a good chassis shop can tune an adjustable front to match a fixed position rear.

Just need to be careful what you buy so they will complement one another.

Steelballz 08-01-2009 20:06

about all the matching etc, that isn't too important as this will be more of a drifter than a road car tbh...

So I want suspension thats a good bit harder, and also a BIT lower, say -2 or -3inches...anyone have any idea's for this??

See my last 2 posts

Or

Replace the fluid in your front shocks with Automatic Transmission Fluid or bike fork oil (there are posts on here about doing that, fluid might be different), change the rears for some adjustables and get savage with your springs and an angle grinder

Or

Replace the rear springs with scaffold pole (this is probably the cheapest option and is fully height adjustable....... once)..... buy a cushion

:L I knew a mate who did that, but all round, god that was nasty, looked nice and low but by heck would it hurt. Never got to go in it, feared It would break the car apart from the sheer vibrations. Simple for competition not a daily driver. :D

Just has an email form a mate saying that bren at apex performance is now advertising a coilover set up for the s12 for £500

ChEsTeR 12-01-2009 21:40

Does any one know anything about this shocks??
