DiY coilover conversion

Thinking of doing a rally design coilover conversion
I was told by s13eater to get a 2 and a quater threaded tube....grind the spring cup off the std strut and weld it up. But can this be done at the back as springs and shocks are separate.... Spring is free so it is not a strut... So what should i do.
Any help appriciated
Thanks

Found the thread
Did you have to reinforce the strut tower as i heard it can warp the sheet metal?

this set up just makes the rear end ajustable in height plus you can choose your own spring rates.this uses the original spring and shocker position, so no reinforcing needed.

In what cases will you have to reinforce the strut towers....
Noticed in your coilover thread a lot of the pics not showing... are they still on your photobucket page
Thanks

sorry mate, they look like they have been deleted, when was you thinking of doing the conversion ?

tss240zg 03-01-2013 22:05

probably in february....

tss240zg 03-01-2013 23:14

i take it you had to drill a separate hole in the strut tower to mount the coilovers?

no mate, everything stays in the same place with the conversion i've done, if you google s12 rear coil conversion, it should come up with a thread on club s12.

Just done the DayCo Motorsports spring perch conversion on mine from the S12club forum.

Had to have them shipped from America. Just cut the pig tail off the bottom of my springs so they fit on the perches. They fit straight over the suspension arm hump. 2 min job.

Probably cost more than Shaun's but I like plug and play :)

Twigged his mustache, muttered the words "ha! ha! you fools!" and buggered off with people's money, last I checked.

I might be selling some coil over kit converted S12 front stuts as I think I'm going to an S13 setup (just figuring out what S13 strut to use at the mo).

We stitch welded the front strut towers on mine, but thats all the reinforcement they needed, they haven't moved.

I also have two spare S12 struts if you want to convert those and still run your car.

Ned 29-01-2013 15:26

might be interested in them mate, let me know
