Det s13 block with et s12 head cambelt, head gasket and head bolt info

The below code is for a Q&H belt. Its for if you want to fit aN et head to a det block. The bottom crank sprocket on the det block will not except a 8v belt as the gapping in the teeth is slightly smaller .The new belt has slight movement on the upper sprocket when meshed from the different gapping but it is safe due to the larger surface contact and diameter of the sprocket.

A DET headgasket fits with no mods.

DET head bolts all fit with DET headbolt washers.

You will need a longer head bolt on the bolt near the dizzy. about 1 " longer.take a det headbolt to a fixings shop for this

2 head bolt washers on the headbolt next to it on the inlet side

why bother tho ?

seem to recall a primera headbolt can be used for the longer one.

Good wirte up btw Pukka :)

as for the point, it gets you stronger rods and pistons relativelt cheaply and doesnt have any wirning/ecu issues to worry about compared to a complete engine swap;)

I've got the bottom sprocket to use an ET belt still spare.

The head also needs drilling out slightly to take the thicker DET head bolts. Otherwise they're a bit tight and bind.

You also need to put a bolt in the block where the idler pulley attaches to the DET. Remove the stud and replace with a bolt. If you don't oil will piss out as it goes in to the oil drain gallery.

funny this thread should come up, i was just talking to martin about this very topic.

i need to sort something for mine, i want a mk2 engine with the little feed to the turbo.

ive always found the ET to be reliable for my uses, but these days with having kids, job, missus working (and her college course) i dont have time to do any extra work to the car, so i was thinking in the long run would a DET bottom with ET head be more reliable option, or just a waste of funds i dont have anyway.

obviously there is the strength upgrade, but im only running 10 - 12 PSI boost at the most, the ET can take this, if i wanted more it would really need forgies, but i would need that for the DET too, so again not gaining anything.

apart from strength, and parts availability, is there any point doing the DET bottom conversion??

just weighing up throwing £x.xx amount into something, when i could had thrown a little more but for a much higher gain.

p.s i dont want to do full DET conversion, insurance and time isnt on my side, car is daily to work every day, so my engine change will be a weekend changeover.

Cheers.
