Well yesterday, I actually helped someone do the headgasket on their S12.

This one suffered water getting into the combustion chambers, and the reason was due to the HG rotting from lack of anti-freeze.

However, there's one pressurized area, and its right beside a head bolt. Its the inlet side, 2nd one in from the rear.

In my opinion I'd be surprised that its rotten the gasket there though

ok so i pulled the engine out had a little look at the side of it and it all looked sweet, apart from a bit of oil here and there......couldent see any signs of oil coming out of the headgasket so started to take the oil feed off, even tho it looked fine as well, and when i went to undo one of the bolts holding it to the engine one side of the feed just came away and sheared off, so it was obviously leaking from there

so now i don't know what to do, put this engine back in or my spare

i think i did about a mile with barely any oil pressure getting to the services with it, the temp dident rise but it dident have much oil left in it, i was only doing about 50mph tho......or put my spare in which came out a crashed car and hasent been run for over a year

i think i'll have a beer and sleep on it and decide tomorow

You would have to lose serious amounts of oil to make an issue to arise with the bearings. The whole engine, underneath the car etc would have to be soaked with oil, even if you lost just 1-2 litres.

I would fix the issue, then reuse the engine. You may be surprised and it could supply you with enough entertainment a while yet. You have that spare anyway.

Thats what happened to mine, it had rotted around the water ways and created a small split into the ring of cylinder 3

yeah i'm just gonna put another oil line on it pop it back in top the oil up and see how she goes. i dident notice any mechanical noises or any rise in temp so maybe it'll be alright....i may be building a det up over the winter anyway, as ive got a good crank and a mate's letting me have a complete knocking engine for nothing.
