Hello there. Just bought a pristine 64k-mile 1987 Silvia turbo in white for a bargain £650 (auto, of course. Are there any bargain manuals?). I was just going to smoke about in it down here in south London until it gets warm enough to ride the motorbike, but ended up getting involved of course. Two questions: does anyone have or know where I can get that reflector strip that sits above the rear number plate. It's the later version with the keyhole to the right.
And: That bloody great fan attached to the crank - is it on permanently or is there some kind of viscous coupling that's not working? I do lots of short journeys and I'm worried for the permanently cold engine. I changed all the oil for synethetic, but it can't be doing it any good... Thanks for your help! |

Its known for the vicous units to seize up. If its noisy then chances are its no free wheeling as it should.
I would just fit an electric fan to be honest. Just get one from a scrap yard.

Blimey. A decent low-mileage manual sounds rare. My auto is horrible, but sensible-ish for London.
Thanks for the electric fan tip. My huge manual tells me that some S12s used a twin electric fan with two fan sensors. Can they be easily swapped for the crank fan? |

Ah, the 2.0-litre. If I found one I could filch bits off, can I just swap the rad and the fan pretty easily?
Also, anyone got any thoughts as to where I could get that reflector that sits above the rear number plate? Ta |
