That method is nothing new though. All you need in the UK is someone to make a spring seat up with a threaded tube on it. Its exactly how Silvia Engineering did them to a few cars back in the day. You can buy the threaded tube, all you need is a machine shop to make the base and attach the tube to it. I was going to do it this way to mine, but then I gave up doing anymore development to mine after working out how to do the LSD.
I read there that prices are expected to be $1400, A full set could be had for just over £400 new. So would be cheaper to get them in the UK. Most of the S13/14 coilovers are made in China for very cheap, it won't be cost efficient for anyone over here to get them slightly adapted by a company in the states.

That's quite a lot of hassle for a weekend spanner monkey though and you'd still probably need to mess around with spring rates. That's all been done for you on the Megan set and all you need to do is pay for shipping. I'm not saying it's the best thing since sliced bread but for some people on here it could make life a lot easier. Price is TBC but if they follow the same pricing as their other kits then $1000 doesn't seem that bad to me for the amount of time it would save you. OK it's probably twice the price that most people spent on their car in the first place but if we were all that level headed then we wouldn't even be in this game to start with

Yeah I agree. But it could be done cheaper here if someone wanted to lead the way and get the spring platforms made up. I'm sure it will be more than 1000 bucks getting them from the states though. Thing is, even if you wanted to get a group of you together to get them made, how many people will have the money? Most people are driving S12's coz they're cheap, and generally they stay that way.
Having fitted coilovers on my car, I was expecting them to be quite a tough ride. They're 7kg front, 5kg rear (400lbs front, 280lbs rear), but are quite comfortable really. When I converted S12 struts to coilovers you are subjecting them to run around on the last bit of shock travel, so they crash alot over potholes where the shock hits the bump stops. The lower the car, the least amount of travel you got. The coilovers don't do that as they have plenty of travel by just being shorter, and in addition the height of them is independantly adjustable, and you can set how much preload you want in them. Coilovers are defintely recommended, I'm very pleased with mine.

I'll be going for a coilover conversion on mine without a doubt, my problem has always been what to do with the rear. I was going to talk to spax about making some upside-down coilovers (if that's even possible) that just replace the standard telescopic one, but I wasn't sure about the turrets and how strong they were or if there was enough clearance at the hub end.
If that doesn't work i think I'm left with three options... 1) new turrets built to accept S13 rear coilovers 2) The same design as Megan Racing/SE/The guys with the Z31's have done. In which case I'll look at doing something that could possibly benefit the club too. 3) Just get some new springs made for the rear and go for the Spax KSX shocks shortened so that the spring doesn't fall out when it gets the chance I'm going drop the guys at Megan Racing an e-mail just to see if they could let me know as soon as they settled on a price and to see if they are willing to ship to the UK. I'm sure the guys on Club-S12 will post up as soon at they go on sale anyway but it won't hurt to show some further interest just in case there is a UK reseller we can go through ![]()

Upside down coilovers are only worthwhile on the front, the rears aren't subject to any lateral loads like the fronts
