I'd check your sparks to be sure that you ain't got the same problem I got with the 3rd cylinder. Just an idea.
well from what the guy put in the email to me he just stated crankcase pressure at idle.....no idea if theres ment to be any or what. ( plus I've no idea who your directing the question to ) |

thanks for that. I'm just sounding out ideas before I go with the renewing the HG. I kinda hoped not to do that as its only done 45k but sounds like its a must

Do a homebrew leak down test before ripping apart the engine.

Get an old spark plug, hack it and drill it out so you can get something resembling a hose on it, or use an old compression tester and hack it.
You then only need to apply actually low pressure to identify a leak. I used an old pressurized gardening water can thing for this. Then use a foot long petrol pipe, shove it in the inlet manifold, oil filler, or exhaust/turbo to see where you can hear a hiss. If it does turn out to be rings, or a damaged piston (eg detonation) then I wouldn't bother attempting a repair. Be easier to find another engine
