Default A few q's from a newbie!!

Hi, I've just been givan an S12 and am planning on building it into a cheap track car.

First off does anybody know the weight and weight split of a standard car? I will be stripping mine then putting a cage in but weight of a stocker is a good starting point to order some springs. The front looks like it should be real easy to convert to coilover via some weld on collars, but what do people usually do to the rear?

Mine has an open rear diff, are they all like this? If they are all open can anybody tell me if it is an R200 diff? It does look like one from the outside, and that would make it real easy for me to put a skyline plated unit inside it. (I'm not made of money, just work at a skyline tuners, before anybody asks!!)

That will do for now

There's no certain weight of the S12, the publications show different fig's from 1140-1245 if i remember correctly.

Yeah the fronts are very easy to convert, there's info here how to do it, and S13 rear coilovers can be used on the rear with fabrication.

Diff is R200 but you will need to used a plated diff compatible with open shafts

Cheers, I'll work from 1200 to give me a starting point for spring rates. Just found the coilover thread, thats pretty much what I was planning. Thanks for the S13 rear info, I'll have a hunt for more info.

I have a few different varieties of R200 diffs to go at, and plenty of skyline shafts, hopefully i can cobble something together on the cheap.

Does anybody make different front bumpers? I'm fitting a medium sized FMIC so want a bit of airflow to it, but also I think the shape of the stock one isn't so nice. I'm not overly keen on how it steps out so far where the number plate and indicators are, then steps back so far beneath it.

I want a flatter front, and deeper to the ground if that makes any sense!

There`s not many places left now that do bodykits. But if you do a search on this forum for "silviagod" he does a fibreglass modified 200sx front bumper.
Hope this helps .

Regards,
Ian.
