View & post in Non Members, view in For Sale & Projects, but not the S12 discussion pages. There is alot of good info in there for sorting problems out, so a good 'selling point' for the club/forum, and thus brings more S12 owners together .

From personal experience, I can glean all the technical info I need off the MX5 owners forum without having to member and have the ability to post on their forum I should think I'll join them at some point though .

Most of the other sites I`ve seen, allow non-members to access the General chat areas and classifieds, but not the main "technical sections". Also they are not allowed to post replies. Seems to work okay for the other sites .

Regards,
Ian.

The Opel Manta site had a techie section for non-members so as not to come across as up-tight. And to help people considering buying into that perticular car too.

I think its far too strict and it will effect the clubs activity the way it currently is.

i personally think that it shoud all be viewable apart from project section.

classifieds and events should be viewable but possably restricted to view only.

I would prefered no-one had paid anything as i did not give permission and i own the club.

i agree that maybe a bit more viewable, sort of like sample what you could have full access to after payment. so non members can see s12 chat and perhaps the ebay section, not projects and i dont think forsale or wanted.

people will go elsewhere if they cant see what might or might not be inside once paid up.

...just to drag up an old topic and add my two cents as an, as yet, unpaid member and experienced web developer and forum admin....

When I first registered on here, it took a week for my account to be approved for me to be able to post anywhere and even now, my posts are still being moderated - not quite the first impression you want to give to new, potentially paying members. I gather this has been done in an attempt to reduce spam but there a far better ways of going about it which won't alienate new members.

I haven't looked hard but I've yet to see anything on how to become a paid member and what, if any, extra benefits there are. Marketing a paid subscription, even on a niche site like this should always be a top priority once a good userbase has been established. There should be links to info on how the become a paid member and what they get in return in every sub-forum and on the main site landing page.

The various web spiders/crawlers like google bot should be allowed to crawl the site and see everything a non-paying member without having to register - because they can't. This will help search engine rank no end and increase new members.

Please don't take offense to anything I'm saying here. I just wanted to give an "outsiders" perspective. If you need help with any of the above (gratis), give me a shout
