Default Possible S12 for sale or breaking, verdict on 22/2/2010

Unfortunately my S12 is in a bad situation, I've done what I can for it's MOT this monday coming ( 22/2/2010 ) but i've got a hunch it's going to fail, if it's something small I'll give it another whirl this year but if it comes back as big I'll have to part with it.

*****Thought it would be wise to let some folk know before I end up calling the scrappy on the 27th or 28th of feb ( thats if its to big for my pockets. ) Don't get your hopes up but anyone interested in buying for either a donor or track car let me know. Preferably full sale or failing that I'll dismantle car between 23rd to 27th and get as many parts off as I can then send the shell to the scrappy. Then post a list of the all the parts I have taken off to sell to you guys on the forum.*****

Once again this isn't a genuine sale until I get the verdict on the 22nd, once I know the details I'll post here again so keep your eyes peeled, also the reason I havn't put this thread in the Sales category as I don't want to get folks hopes up then destroy them, if its bad news I'll put thread into Sales so everyone can get a nibble at it, pictures included.

Don't get your hopes up yet but cover your bases.

Wayne

Well it's bad news for the car and myself, I'll no longer be an S12 owner

If anyones interested in following up on the departure of my S12 head over to the sales section on the forum as I'm posting a new thread there.

See you around.

It's repairable, failed with the parking brake again ( common fault on mine every year. ) Serious leak on rear nearside shock ( which I won't have time to look for or find due to Tax is out end of Feb ) Adivisories are there the worst I think was both front discs are lightly pitted but apart from that it'd go another year but without the parts and only 2 weeks left to either get it fixed or sold I have no choice but to sell.

basicly it'd cost over £50+ to repair handbrake, god knows for the rear shock and another £54 for MOT plus labour for getting parts fitted and possibly it might fail as tester might pick up something else. So it's a gamble but i think it's time for me to let it go.

Default S12 MOT Failure

Doesn't sound that bad. Are the shocks you have fitted genuine or aftermarket? Must be able to sourch a set, even a 2nd hand one to get you through MOT.Which side is it? Would take about an Hr to fit as only a few bolts to take off.

Pitting on your brakes due to lack of use, I d say. I d aways wondered about this statement, as if looking for something to pick up. As long as the brakes show they stop with good power, evenly, no binding & good thickness on pads and discs them selves. No brake oil leeks & all hose & pipes in good condition.

Why is the rear calliper sticking, is it the Calliper it's self, then easily srtipped & cleaned up to get you through the MOT, However I'd prefer the exchange calliper if you can aford, then you just bolt it on.
Try 'Brakes International, 'www.brakesint.co.uk' :01706 666999, appro £55 when I last bought a set from them, very helpful, usually got them on self & work on an exchange basis. Best way then they come ready to paint prior to fitting for that enhanced look.

If it's the cable, which is more than likely, then which side is it. I'm on my 3rd pair now. I have a couple of Passenge sides spare & could do you one for a fraction of Nissan prices. £10 + P&P (brand new gen Nissan)
Aftermarket ones also available for about £28, so if it's your Drivers side then this would be your cheepest option here. Nissan want £50 each.

If you get the car back to the MOT centre in the 2 weeks, then they will only look at the fail points. I'd also look arround for an MOT centre you'd trust & is sympathatic towards calssic cars.

Sorry if it sounds like I teaching you to such eggs, not sure of your knowladge as you mentioned getting parts fitted by someone else. & this seams like an easy fix to me.

Where are you?
Are you thinking of selling the car as whole?

my rear handbrake sometimes binds, a little squirt of WD40 on the bit where the cable goes onto (as it goes into the caliper), and its back to normal, dont have to do it very often.

I don't see why you would break the car for such minor issues, fix them, get it retested and sell it for a lot more.
