Well spent about 3 hours today getting the Tubby Off. Didn't help that the Elbow was welded on to the Front pipe. Tried hitting it with a hammer and it still didn't shift. The Three back studs need Recoiling so its a good job I kept the Six left over from my last kit!. I've got another front pipe so I now need a T2 Elbow. Anyone got one spare that I can buy or swop ?

Default little progress

Well got a few things done today like cleaned up the tubby using a drill with a Wire wheel and replace one of the gaskets. There is a little play but nothing bad, I hope. I will take off the wings tomorrow and take them to my mate who will weld them up.

Default Update

Right got it all back together and did an oil change as it was like Black sludge and kind of runs weird. At Idle the engine doesn't seem to run smooth. So I whipped out the plugs and found that No.2 doesn't look like its firing properly. So I did a compression check and found

1 - 10 2 - 8 3 - 10 4 - 10 kg/cm2

The book says std 11.77 or min 8. I drove it and its drives quite well but no.2 has me a little worried. Anyone got any ideas ? maybe HG?

carbon deposits on the valves? or valve clearances are out. both will stop the valves seating probably and give you a low comp reading
valve clearances must be set hot

Default Bad news!

Well I've now got to the bottom of the Bad running. Its the Big HG I'm afraid !!!! Dam dam dam!. Basically I found low compression on no.2 and added some oil and re checked it and only a few psi improvement. So off with the rocker cover to check that the valves weren't sticking or the tappets were loose but they were fine. When I got the car I changed the coolant as it was Bright Green. Changed it for the Blue stuff and in the filler cap is some YES you've guessed it Milky Mocha!!!! *astard. Wasn't much but enough to upset the running so next job head off jobby or sell the car as it is. Haven't decided yet although its far to good to scrap or break.
