Default Automatic Choke Not Working

When i start my car it ticks over at 500rpm very lumpy after she has warmed up it about 750rpm and smooth. Is there anything i can do or replace to sort this problem. It's not to bad this time of year but when it starts getting colder i might have problems starting.I know the thermostat is not working but i have a new one to fit would this be the problem.

there is a temp sensor on the inlet that could be faulty, or the cold idle unit itself could be faulty, or it could just be a broken wire, the best way to test the sensor, is unplug it, if i remember right, this makes the idle rpm raise as it thinks its really cold (i could be wrong as its been a while since i messed with my engine elecs)

ill try and find some pics for you.

**EDIT**

I have heard that you can clean the valve by
1. removing it
2. Filling with carb cleaner (you'll need to put your finger and thumb over the ends) and shaking
3. repeat 2. until the cleaner comes out clear.

Was a thread going a few weeks back on the same topic which should make things clear (page 7 idle chat) also a description of using a manual choke if you can't get the auto one working, hope this helps
