I use the free edition of AVG.

I`ve tried Norton, which is a pain in the arse for taking over too many systems on your PC.

TBH, I think AVG is probably one of the best free applications out there. I`ve never had a single virus get through yet. Probably tempting fate now ....LOL....

Regards,
Ian.

AVG came bottom in recent tests, don't bother with it. Avast if you insist on paying nowt, or else fsecure or sophos. depends what malware/virus you have as to how to get rid of it, first port of call is to boot in safe mode (hit f8 before windows starts and select safe mode from list) and try to delete it from there. failing that then you'll need to identify it and search for specific removal tools/instructions. any half decent antivirus will ID it for you

stell loaded avast last nite, its coming up with trojan horses all the time and asked me to sent to chest, i think its still in there, but its being kept at bay for the moment, i've never had one this bad, it just kept loading pop ups on, it said it was a malware alarm.,

TBH I`ve been using AVG for years now and it always works great for me. I have it running on all the PC`s in the house. My stepson is always downloading shareware, movies, songs etc and AVG has always picked up on any viruses. I update the AVG file every day so I think that helps .
I`m surprised it came bottom in tests, I know quite a few people that use it and they are all happy with it. But as you say, probably a paid system would perform better, I`m just tight...LOL... .

Regards,
Ian.

aint we all lol but last time i looked avg didnt cover p2p. Have had several machines with avg go down from user abuse, but avast takes some beating in that department, though its a little more cpu greedy this is well worth the security. i only use free antivirus on the machines that i own=) it does the job for most home needs.
