Default Oil Pressure

What should the oil pressure ideally be and how long should it take to come up?

My new purchase shows about 20psi @ idle and seems to take a bit of time getting there from cold. It's got what appears to be fairly bad rod knock (not had sump off yet) so could the worn ends account for this?

If it's not normal, what are the common causes of low pressure on the CA18ET? Never really got my hands dirty with one of these engines before, half tempted to pull it out and strip!

Low pressure on the gauge is fairly normal but the screw in sensors are crap and sometimes need replacing. You can get them from ROCKAUTO.COM for cheap. Is this the one from Mrs God? I'm sure it wont be terminal

Ah ok, makes me feel a bit better! It is indeed Mrs God's and I'm sure it's just in need of a new set of ends - it's had an oil change every 2.5k! - just need to find some time to get the sump off and have a look. Gonna get some DET rods, ARP bolts and ACL race ends so I can give her a bit more boost and rev her a bit harder

I think the oil pressure gauge creeps up slowly from start anyway.

Same as the temp. gauge. If you start it when its warm is takes a short amount of time for the temp gauge to catch up. And I think the oil pressure is the same deal.

What's the least pain in the ass method to drop the sump by the way? Engine out or drop the crossmember, rack etc. ?

engine out jobby. But why would you need to if its been looked after by the god? If you really think theres a problem, get an oil pressure gauge and screw it in after removing the sensor and see what the readings are

well, the horrendous knocking kinda calls for it can't really tell if its big end of small end but its that type of knock that makes you cringe when you here it, like the engine is eating itself.

im gonna take all the belts off first tho and make sure its not ancillary related. been preoccupied with one of the other cars of late and not had time to fiddle.

was reading on ther other forum that ppl have had success jacking up the bellhousing til it hits the tunnel, supposedly give you just enough clearance.
