Doesn't sound that bad. Are the shocks you have fitted genuine or aftermarket? Must be able to sourch a set, even a 2nd hand one to get you through MOT.Which side is it? Would take about an Hr to fit...

First check the earth wires round the top of the pump housing. I had a simular problem a while ago, turned out to be back earth contact.
