The crux of the matter is the trailing arms need to have there movement (drop) limited.
A strap of somesort is required, I've mentioned else where on here I've done similar things of other cars and used old seat belts, doubled up and burnt holes in them, super cheap and plenty strong enough. hese could be mounted on the top shock mount to the bottom shock mount. If you want some seat belts pop round I have a few spare kicking around! |

Yer please if you could take some pics. I've been to the scrap yard and I've got some bigger lower spring seat rubbers today hoping they will hold them better. Mine are not cut. I don't see how they can fail it on MOT as it's completely oem???

Did the seat belt method earlier. Grabbed a couple of lengths from a scrappy.
You need to jack the car up to just before the point at which your springs become loose, mark the shock, take the shock out and cut the seat belt to length and double up (i only doubled up at the ends because I didn't have enough) and melt holes into the belt so when fitted the shock stays at the marks length: ![]() ![]() ![]() I've lowered mine on e36 lowering springs chopped to fit. Just some that I had lying around. Will post some of that info up on my build thread. This method works a charm, cheers Imrdave! |

That is a really cool idea! - I wonder how the guys at the mot center will take it though. Thanks for sharing that!

There is nothing in the MOT saying 'check the rear shocks aren't restricted by a seat belt', only making sure the suspension doesn't fall apart on full droop.
The MOT is pretty much black and white, my rally car failed the MOT having no rear seat belts, so I took the rear seat out (needed in rally regs) for the MOT then it passed, as if there is no rear seats fitted it doesn't need rear belts. |
